Hi,

I'm Gareth, 68 next month. I had an oesophagectomy two years ago this month. Given my age, I like to think I've always "thought young". I'm a big music fan and drummer. I also have a lovely family who have had to go through the journey with me. My wife, Amber had her own nightmare 8 years ago with a (thankfully begnign) brain tumour, having a 6 hour operation to remove it. Since then, life has been a real rollercoaster - our first daughter was born in 2015 and just celebrated her 6th birthday. Our second was born in 2018 just days after my official cancer diagnosis - so what a strain that was for Amber, bless her. Anyway, the upshot of all this is we're still here and have two beautiful daughters. Coronavirus situation has taken the edge off live over the past 12 months but we, like everyone else, will get through it. I suppose I'm trying, not very eloquently, to say keep hope alive. Cancer treatment improves year on year and more and more of us are given our lives back by our wonderful surgeons and their teams. The care I had in my stays at The Heath Hospital, Cardiff, was second to none. Happy to talk through what to expect with anyone facing surgery.

  • Hello Drumgar

You are very welcome here, with everything that we all have to go through it is nice to read your positivity and your experience since your diagnosis, with your treatment and that of your wife', and the extension to your family with the birth of your second daughter, as you say a rollercoaster, but a positive one and that is what really counts.

Although it is my husband that has OC, I originally came to this site looking for the positive, so thank you so much, for sharing your positive here.

Great to have your support here
