Hi

I’m new to the group, and came across this section which is the cancer mum was diagnosed with back in November last year.
Mum was previously quite fit and healthy, what started as a chest infection initially then mum not getting better she was taken into hospital. Then our world was turned upside down, them dreaded words it’s Cancer. Mums had already spread to her shoulder, so only offered palliative care.
Mum was doing ok, had radiotherapy to her shoulder which eased some of the pain. More recently began sleeping loads, diagnosed with anaemia, then panic attacks kicked in which again resulted in a hospital admission as she was struggling to get her breath after it. Mum ended up having a blood transfusion and another scan which has now found the cancer has spread to her lung.
Thankfully she’s been home now a few days but it sleeping lots, we have to sit close by when she’s eating or drinking as she will just doze off again.
Feel like things are moving fast with mum and it’s so scary.

  • Hi Nat1002

I am so sorry that you have found the need to search out this forum, and that your Mum has been diagnosed with OC, but you are Welcome, many within this forum are the loved ones of people with the diagnosis, others are living with the diagnosis and between us we have many stories, of our own experience that may help you to feel as if you are not so alone.

I understand what you say when you mention your worlds being turned upside down, this made even more so by knowing the treatment is palliative. You mention "we have to sit close by when she is eating" do you have other support around you?

Reading your Mum's journey so far, it does feel as things are coming by her one on top of the other, the secondary cancers, the blood transfusion, the anaemia and panic attacks and now what seems like a full lack of energy with her sleeping a lot. Do you have the contact details of her Oncology team, or her assigned cancer nurse? have they provided you any additional information on what to expect over the coming day?

There are other areas on this site that may offer you a place to feel able to express your fears, especially the Family and Friends Forum

Sometimes it feels that words are not enough, but we are here, and I am wishing you and Mum all the strength you need at this very difficult and scary time

    Hi

thank you so much for your reply, we do have all the relevant people involved in mums care. The Macmillen nurse is out a gain this week and we have regular contact with the specialist nurses who have been involved with mum.
I think I find it difficult as mum has gone from being fine with no physical health concerns to this.
we lost Nan to the same cancer almost two years ago, Nan passed 3 weeks after her diagnosis.

Just knowing there is other support around is a blessing, such as this group Heart
