Hello my name is Mandy and i was told yesterday i have Oesophgeal cancer and it is the aqaumous cell type.  The dr told me i have to go a  pet test and that will give her more information and then they will meet and then tell me what they can do for treatment.

As it will be another couple of weeks before we get the results knowing i have cancer has put my emotions all over the place.  Does anybody have any tips for helping myself and my husband on how to deal with the waiting.

Thanks

  • Hi Mandy,

Welcome to the group and sorry about your diagnosis.

I was diagnosed nearly 3 years ago with adenocarcinoma of the gastroesophageal junction. There was a lot of waiting involved. This included 2 weeks for biopsy results (the worst wait for me) to confirm my tumour was malignant. Waiting for a battery of tests including PET scan and exploratory surgery. After the MDT meeting, restaging from stage 4 to T3N2M0 (after analysing all my test results), waiting a month to start chemotherapy due to lack of space on the chemotherapy ward, etc.

Being a control freak I had to adjust my attitude to being a passenger on my curative treatment pathway which was successful and am still in remission.

The treatment pathway for Squamous Cell Carcinoma is different to mine but is still tough. But you can spend your spare time meeting (virtually) your friends and family, and planning your support during treatment?
