  • Hi Ryss

Welcome to the Forum. There's a great group here with many positive stories , experiences and support for you - so ask anything anytime.

I had my esophagectomy almost 4 years ago...I knew it was a big op and tried to get as fit as possible beforehand. I naturally worried about the big unknown and then a friend reminded me that actually you'll know nothing at all about it !.. He was so right.!!  I was in theatre almost 12 hours ...but clearly dont recall any of it.

One thing I will mention...that I wasnt too aware of..but best your partner knows is that there are multiple tubes inserted (8 for me) they are all there to serve a purpose and work incredibly well. You lose about 1 per day as you start recovery. Its absolutely nothing to worry about and probably looks worse for any family seeing you .

My daughter and I made a blog of my journey to help others decipher some of the terminology and give an insight of some things to expect.
