My wife Lorraine aged 61 was diagnosed with stage 4 esophgael cancer in August 20, she had 6 months of chemo which was effective. We we were Informed in March that the cancer was stable. She suffers from nueropathy as a result of the chemo in her hands and feet which prevents her driving and walking any distance but she can eat solid food.

Later today she gets the result of her 1st 3 monthly scan, she is convinced that the cancer is growing due to discomfort digesting food. I am so stressed, she is now asleep but I can't and it's 1am.

I read about taking one day at a time but I'm scared for her and the inevitable journey ahead. We do still enjoy ourselves but there is a shadow over our lives. I read about stents and feeding tubes and I guess that is coming her way. Hopefully we are told that it is stable but it's so tough and I'm so stressed for my wife .

  • Hi Steve

How did your wife's appointment go? I'm hoping that everything has remained stable and that there wasn't any sign of growth.

  • Hi  Latchbrook,

Thanks for your  response, I was suffering scanxiety when I posted the message.

It was great news in that the cancer is still stable. I see so many message's on this site saying that you need to live for the day but sometimes It is hard not to dwell on the negative.

Today my wife is good, she is suffering quite severe neuropathy in her hands and feet from the chemo but is getting used to living with this and accepts it as a price worth paying.

Although I don't have scans I do understand how nerve wracking it is when you're waiting for results. I'll shortly be having an excision biopsy for a lesion on my skin that my dermatologist is concerned about and while for most of the time I can put it out of my mind it inevitably creeps in from time to time.

    Take care
