Hello

Thank you everyone for taking time to read my post and for sharing all your experiences and advice.

My mum OC was luckily picked up early and completed radiotherapy and chemo November 2020.

She made great progress but wanted wanted to ask the community about some ongoing challenges.

High secretions- can interfere with eating and induce retching and so looses her meal. This has increased recently.

Fluctuance- a lot,  tried to cut out some obvious diet culprits but it's still ongoing problem.

Today she was unable to have even a bowl wheetabex which is unusual. We tried steaming, breathing, chest physio vibrations to encourage secretions to lift and clear her passage.

Reading an earlier suggestion from this community we tried drinking fizzy drink, this did help managed to eat a few spoons of mash potato but this induce further secretions.

This evening attempted watered down blended soup but this also did not stay down.

I will be calling Nurse tomorrow morning for help.

Any wisdom would be very appreciated, home treatments that may help with symptoms in any way.

Thank you

J

  • Hi J

So sorry to read about your Mum, did you get any help from the nurse?

If Mum is having trouble swallowing again, it is important that they look at why.... It may be that there is a need for more treatment? it always surprises me when I read that people have finished treatment if there is no surgery involved. My husband has just finished his 27th treatment and although I know it depends on how well someone reacts, I would hope that the nurse in your Mum's case will ask for a scan or something to understand what is happening with mum.

Please let me know how you got on

Just an update I had discussion with the nurse and we have an appointment next month for endoscopy.

My heart sinks as I see her original symptoms begin to creep back.

    Thank you Lowe

Things are better now. Made adaptations. Started a food diary and isolated some trigger food items. Also re-started regular PPI and anti sickness meds.

    Endoscopy next week.

    Slight smile

  • Good pleased to hear that,

If you don't mind, will you let me know how the endoscopy goes.
