Hello my husband had an endoscopy today ordered by his Gp under the 2 week cancer rule. A specialist nurse did it while he was under sedation. I went to pick him up but he was still very drowsy. The nurses didn’t speak to him about what they found or didn’t find he just has a review apt. If they suspected something would he have been told there and then? Thank you for any help
Hi Poppy4
It is not normal for the person doing the endoscopy to give the results, do you know if they took any biopsies?
As with most imaging, the person doing the procedure, sends off their findings to be reviewed by others more experienced in their field.
It is a scary time for you both, but I hope there is some positive news coming your way

Hi Poppy
I can understand how worrying this is for you both.
Like Frank, I was told by the specialist nurse that there was a tumour (and that it was probably malignant) after all the other patients had been sent home. I had to go back a week later for confirmation after biopsy results were available. This was seven plus years ago.
My wife had one a couple of years later and they gave her her feedback straight away - a hiatus hernia. She didn’t have to go back for any follow up.
This was in West Essex. Different centres may well do things differently.
I hope everything turns out ok for you both.
Counting the days, making every day count.

I did get a missed call about an hour after we left but I just missed it and it was a no caller Id number
Hi Poppy4,
I do understand what you are going through. Over 3 years ago I had an endoscopy under the 2 week rule.
I knew something was up when the doctor sent one of the nurses out for more biopsy samplers. He took 13 in all.
I guess if your husband didn't have any biopsy samples taken there is nothing to be concerned about?
And as Zappaman says it depends on who is doing the endoscopy on what feedback you may get. The doctor who gave me my endoscopy sat me down in front of a monitor afterwards and showed me what he had found (a bleeding friable 6cm tumour). I asked him if he thought it was malignant and he said "yes but would have to wait 2 weeks for the biopsy results to confirm". Those were the most anxious 2 weeks of my life. And of course he was right. My wife and I decided we would not tell anyone until we got the biopsy results.
Perhaps you could phone up the hospital and ask for a diagnosis? Or procedure of getting a diagnosis?
If it is bad news don't give up. although the treatment is tough it's worth it as you can see there are a lot of us in remission!
