hi to all had my 4 sessions of flot ,and keyhole surgery  last week in preparation for surgery for removel of tumour ,would like to know has anyone else had ebus before surgery  thanks ryss.

  • Hi Rys

my chemo and surgery were several years ago but as I remember it I had ultrasound by endoscopy or whatever it’s called!, quite soon before my surgery. it was the scan that gave thr final staging prior to surgery. So I think it is if not mandatory then very common.

so you are just about to embark on surgery. I’m sure you are well prepared forwhat is ahead but if you have any questions then just ask. There is loads of experience on this forum and although everyone has a slightly different experience there we are all prepared to throw in our recollections.

So good luck. The endoscopic ultrasound is a similar experience to the first gastroscopy that you probably had.

Counting the days, making every day count.

  • Hi ,

I had EUS prior to surgery as part of the staging and diagnostic process. This useful link https://www.opa.org.uk/edit/files/opa_london_zoom_meeting_2020_talk_by_james_gossage.pdf from the Oesophageal Patients Association (OPA) is a quick guide on what to expect to diagnose and stage your cancer. However this does not include EBUS. I think this is an ultrasound of your lungs?

During scans to stage my cancer they found a benign 2cm lump in my right lung. I think this is one of the reasons I didn't have Ivor Lewis surgery but laparoscopic assisted left thoracoabdominal oesophagectomy. Basically they entered my body on the LHS not the RHS.

I think you need to ask your surgeons why you had EBUS?

    Hope this helps?
