Hi I just joined this tonight I thought it would help my dad and I on his journey like many out world has been tuned upside down in just a short time.
hes had his 1st chemo session 4 weeks ago and has had no side effects apart from the odd tingling in his finger tips and a sore stomach which is really affecting his eating.... his second chemo was on Friday past and since then has felt terrible, can hardly eat anything and feels very tired which I think is normal reading all through some notes.... I make him shakes filled with fatty foods and High calorie but tonight he could even eat a boiled egg.... loads of flem coming up for 45-50 minutes afterwards... he’s been like this since Friday is this normal? Will it pass? What can I do to help ??
Hi Shirls
This is a horrible journey for anyone. Even worse for relatives, watching, feeling helpless.
The chemo regime has changed since I had mine seven years ago, and I had a very rough time with my post op chemo. I ended up in hospital for 10 days. It was worse than the surgery. But I did survive and continue to enjoy an excellent quality of life. The latest chemotherapy regime is even tougher than what I had.
His specialist nurse will be able to advise you about what is expected/acceptable. They generally use an answer machine, but will get back to you if you leave a message explaining the situation. If things get worse out of hours ring the hospital A&E.
I hope this helps and he is soon eating again.
My thoughts are with you and everyone who is suffering from this cruel disease.
Counting the days, making every day count.
Brent
