Hi - I had an endoscopy last Friday and am awaiting the results of 2 biopsies. Needless to say, I’m worrying about the outcome. I’d put off telling my GP about my swallowing / blockage issues for so long (years) as I was terrified about the endoscopy due to being badly claustrophobic. I’m just hoping I’ve not made a bad decision!
2 conditions were flagged on my report but I’m struggling to find any UK based information on them.
I can just about remember my wait. It was almost eight years ago. The specialist nurse said it was probably malignant straight away. So waiting for the histology report to confirm it was awful. I was so tense my back seized up and gave me really bad sciatica. So bad that I nearly didn’t make it to the consultation to get the results. I was just rolling around on the floor in agony.
There followed weeks of further tests and scans before I started chemotherapy. Some Christmas that was! Surgery and recovery and less than a year after my initial endoscopy I was on a cruise in the Med. I have never felt better or happier. Life is a little different eating wise but not that others would notice! I enjoy spicy food more now (no indigestion!) and had the best holiday ever in India a couple of years ago.
There can be life after cancer. So work on the positivity. Get fit and stay fit. Lean on people when they say they want to help they really do; it makes them feel less helpless.
Counting the days, making every day count.
