Hi All
I’ve got my Endoscopy tomorrow. I’m absolutely terrified. Just needed to write some feelings down.

Hi fdka77,
i had an Endoscopy last July as part of the procedure to fit me with a stomach feeding tube (Peg). Like you I wasn’t looking forward to it as I have a dreadful gag reflex but in all honesty it wasn’t half as bad as what I was expecting. I had already made my mind up that no way were they just going to give me the local anaesthetic spray to do it and so I was determined that I was going to have a sedative to calm me down. After getting on to the operating table the sedative was given and whilst I was awake I was drowsy and had reduced awareness of what was actually happening. I just remember them putting a rubber mouth guard in my mouth then them asking me to swallow as I assume the scope entered my mouth. I don’t remember anything else except coming round up a little while later on a side ward and being offered a cup of tea.
It didn’t hurt a bit, I didn’t gag but the thought of it is worse than it actually was. Just let the medical team know how worried you are. Please don’t get too worked up about it, if I can do it so can you. Let us know how you get on.
Best wishes

Hi Carol
Thanks for the reply. I’m not sure if it’s the procedure or the potential result of it that’s bothering me the most x
The waiting is always the worst bit in all this but once your medical team have all the information they need and you know what you’re dealing with an action plan will be put in place. You will get the strength to deal with whatever is thrown at you and who knows it might not be as bad as what you’re imagining, I know I remember that awful feeling myself.
Hopefully they might be able to give you some initial feedback tomorrow but it’s more than likely it will be a week or so before you get the full results. There’s plenty of people on here who will help support you on your journey,
Fingers crossed for you tomorrow
Best wishes

Just as Carol says, there is nothing to it. I could remember the mouth guard but nothing after. So I hope it was as trouble free for you today.
But maybe it wasn’t the procedure you were concerned about. Maybe it was what they might find.
My wife and I were taken into a side room half an hour or so after the procedure by a specialist nurse who said they had found an obstruction and it was probably cancer. As I was still a little drowsy from the sedative it didn’t really sink in till we got home.
Here I am nearly eight years later leading the same kind of existence as everyone else in these strange times. I had chemo and surgery in 2014. I’m so glad I didn’t put off having the endoscopy- I was tempted as like you and Carol, I was extremely apprehensive. Much later and they wouldn’t have been able to do the surgery.
Please let us know how you get on.
Counting the days, making every day count.

Hi Brent
I have reflux oesophagitis along with a Hiatus Hernia. All probably linked to the GERD diagnosed back in 2015.
I know the issues above are very insignificant to what others have been through/going through on this site. However, being able to interact with people like yourself has been really supportive to me.
Many thanks
