Hi everyone, Me again!!
Please can I just get some advice on chemotherapy and radiotherapy? My husband is having EOX chemotherapy. But I’ve been doing some reading on the cancer and I’ve seen that there are some people having radiotherapy as well as chemotherapy. From what I’ve read the outcome is better with a mixture of both. So why do you think my husband is only having chemo? I just want him to have whatever will work the best. I want to ask the consultant but I’m not keen because he has laughed at some of my questions and it makes me rather stupid.
Thank you
Judy xx
Judy, I think it depends on the consultant and hospital regarding what treatment is offered. I'm sure you may get conflicting information about this. I opted for surgery only and 3 years and 4 months later I am still here and enjoying life. I think what the patient thinks will be best and being positive helps. Kind regards Frank.
Judy,
My wife was prescribed concurrent chemo- and radiotherapy prior to surgery (which is just about to happen.) That was described to us as a fairly aggressive treatment programme but, since she is relatively young and fit, the consultants had decided that is was the best course of action in her case.
Every case will be different, and the consultant's job is to (try to!) prescribe the most appropriate treatment programme taking everything into account. However your question is entirely fair, and I think you should pose it directly to the consultant involved. There is no such thing as a 'dumb' question, and nobody - absolutely nobody - should be laughing at any questions you do raise.
Very best wishes - I hope everything turns out well.
Thank you for replying Frank. I get so worried that everything is just down to money and I fear that Rob isn’t getting the right treatment. He is only 51 and fit. So I think he could have taken the radiotherapy. But yes I suppose it’s up to the oncologist as to what you get.
