Hi

My mum has recently been told she has oesophageal & stomach cancer, which is terminal & inoperable.

She has her first oncology appointment next week.

Please can someone enlighten me on what to expect.

Any other advice will also be welcomed.

Thanks in advance

    Hi Julie,

I'm so sorry to hear about your mum. My mam was diagnosed with terminal oesophageal cancer last month. It has spread to her bones. We met with the oncologist a couple of weeks ago. The appointment is aimed at going over history (social, medical and history of symptoms), discussion of diagnosis which may include prognosis etc and then they will talk about treatment options such as chemo/radiotherapy.

Really hope you are doing OK, feel free to message me if you have anymore questions. If I can help, I will.

    Hi PPSMP

Thank you for your reply. Sorry to hear about your Mam, hope you are bearing up ok.

We were advised that if we want to know how long she had we have to ask at the appointment as they don't tell you otherwise.

If there is anything I can do to help you too, get back n touch

    Thanks again

    Xx

    Thanks Julie.

we were advised the same however please be prepared that they may bring it up as my mams consultant did. We stopped him as we explained multiple times my mam didn’t want to know the ins and outs and she felt it important to remain positive. In the end he respected her wishes. I think he was concerned she wasn’t accepting her diagnosis but soon understood why she didn’t want to know.

Hope the appointment is as positive as possible.

    Take care

    Tricia x
