Had my 1st cycle on 8th August all was ok until the saturday had water then pain in chest etc phoned triage went in and was a suspected  laryngeal  spasm. Had 2nd cycle on thursday but the oxaliplatin was reduced by 25% and given over 4 hours instead of 2. Again all went ok until friday lunch time. Severe burning in chest heavy arms vomiting etc. Ambulance was called heart traces done and were showing irregularities.  Taken to cardio unit where few episodes happened there. Had angiogram  but showed no damage kept in all weekend then heart scan this morning. Oncologist was round and has now stopped the chemo as whatever it was it mimicked a heart attack. Anyone else have this happen? This past few days has been the scariest of my life. He did say that 1 person in every 100 / 200 folk this can happen to and unfortunately I am one of them. Worried about future now. If anyone has had this would love to hear from you

Hi elaine ,i also had chest pain after first round of flot ,had an angiogram which confirmed it was caused by 5fu in the flot regime ,this constricted the flow of blood through the heart arteries causing lack of oxygen to the heart muscle in effect i had a heart attack ,chemo was changed to carboplantin and paclitaxel ,no chest pain with this ,dont worry there are alternatives to flot .can you tell me what your diagnoses is ,i am t3 n2 mx waiting now for a restaging ct t see if operation going ahead ,unfortunately still unable to swallow anything so still being fed through a tube up my nose.if there is anything else i can help you with just ask

    all the best Donna x

Hi Donna. Had the pain 1st cycle but put it down to laryngeal  spasm but happened on fri after 2nd cycle on thur. Had heart scan yesterday so waiting on results as angiogram showed no damage. Oncologist was in on monday and has stopped all chemo and is going to be speaking to surgeon with view to surgery but will discuss at meeting hopefully next week. I was stage 3 n2 on diagnosis. I am able to eat and drink normally only had problems with bread and some veg etc feeling it was getting stuck. I am totally wiped out after the past few days. Never had pain like it. I do so hope they can continue with your surgery. I was just surprised all chemo stopped for me so I guess I will just have to wait and see what plan B is now. Thank you again for replying as I have read all side effects  but not read this happening to anyone and was sure it couldn't have just been me it happened to. Hope you are doing ok for now xx
