Well tomorrow I start my first cycle of FLOT  treatment. Been a long few weeks since diagnosis but so many tests and scans etc. Was desperate to get started now the time is almost here I am getting anxious  and scared. Guess partly because of the unknown.  Have read everything from hospital and side effects  absolutely  terrify me.  I know this has to be done before I can get surgery but it all seems so real. Keep hoping they would say sorry we made a mistake but I know that's not going to happen now. I do so hope I can get through this as I have a brother who also has oesophagus  cancer  and has had months of chemo but not the FLOT regimen so it has been very hard in my elderly mother. I am so worried and getting so emotional  and yes terrified.  Thank you for reading this post

  • I remember only too well how apprehensive I felt before I had chemo so understand how you feel.  I didn’t have FLOR but a similar chemo ECX for stomach cancer.  They always tell you about the possible side effects. But everyone reacts differently and you get lots of support and advice on how to manage them.

I found the first week the hardest then it got much better.  It’s hard the first cycle because you don’t know what to expect but you will get through it.

I read a Blog by recently and she gave great advice on coping with FLOT.

    Good luck!

Hi thank you for your reply. Yes it the fear of the unknown and so many side effects  it is quite  daunting.  I will have to look up niffler blog. Hope you are now doing ok. And again thank you for your reply

  • Hi Elaine

I'm sorry to hear you are starting FLOT tomorrow. I hope it goes smoothly and you are not there longer than you need. Thank you for mentioning my blog. I hope it is helpful. Chemo is a surreal experience. I found it much more daunting than the surgery as it is not an exact science... more like alchemy. Remember to report issues to your onc and be kind to yourself. I'll be thinking of you. X

Hi Elaine, I just wanted to wish you all the best for today, my hubby has just completed his 4th cycle of FLOT.  He always took headphones so he could listen to some music, magazines to read, snacks, packed lunch, drinks. It will be a long day for you, so anything that will make the time pass quicker is worth considering. Hope all goes well. X

Hopefully once I get this first one out the way I will kind of know what to expect for other 3. Good luck for your hubby and you  x

Hi thank you for your reply. I read your blog after someone else told me about it. It was good to read and helpful thanks. As you have been through it. It was good to read from a personal side of things rather than just leaflets and books. Didn't sleep too well last night so much going through my head but nothing I can do I have to leave it to the professional team now. I have done all I can keeping as healthy as I can putting on weight and exercising. Thank you again. And thank you for the blog x
