Hi there
I hope you don't mind me posting. I joined cos I am having tests done this Wednesday coming to check for oesophagus cancer. I am so anxious & worried.
Can I ask if anyone has been diagnosed with this & what their symptoms were?
I am currently struggling with a range of symptoms & the not knowing what is going is the worst bit. I wish Wednesday was here & the tests were over so I can be told yes you got it or no you're okay.
Thanks for reading,
Claire.
Hi Claire
of course nobody minds you posting here. We’re just sorry anybody needs to.
So my symptoms were quite common : difficulty swallowing fresh white bread. Not so common I think was difficulty swallowing apple!
It only happened a couple of times. But my gp thought it best to get it checked out.
The gastroscopy was simple having opted for sedation so nothing to worry about there. Most people that have the test go home happy that they have nothing too serious.
One thing to bear in mind is age. Young people don’t get this. And judging from your username you don’t fall into the over 55 category. I might be wrong. Maybe you are just young at heart!
Whatever your age we are experiencing some lovely weather at the moment so why not enjoy it. Something you learn from this experience is you need to make the most of every day. I am 1965 days Cancer free since my surgery five years ago.
Counting the days, making every day count.

Hi Claire my mum has recently been diagnosed and also my cousin got it when she was 39! Both of there symptoms were difficulty swallowing, choking and food stuck, mum had heartburn for years cousin didn’t her was mainly choking. Wishing you the best of luck on Wednesday and all is ok, fingers crossed for you xx
Hi I am 29.
My symptoms are similar, difficulty swallowing, choking, food getting stuck & causing pain & then suddenly overnight my appetite went, I am like your cousin though I had no heart burn. I am having a camera down my throat on Wednesday to check for cancer, they only told me this last Wednesday so I had the appt for the test a week later which is great cos then it's less time to worry but I am still so scared & worried xx
Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I am 29 but I just seen the reply from the person below that a family member had it at a young age too so I guess it can happen but isn't as common I guess.
My symptoms have been trouble swallowing especially bread & meat, choking on food, food getting stuck & causing pain & just suddenly over night my appetite went. I be glad when Wednesday over with & I get the results so it eases my mind.
Congratulations on being cancer free for so long, that is wonderful to hear, I wish you all the best for the future (:
It may be a hernia I’m glad there getting you in quick as the worry and wait is just horrendous! It’s the worse thing ever, I really hope your ok, I will pray for good luck xxx
