Hi everyone, mum is still in a lot of pain after getting stent put in, it’s just not settling surgeon said it’s the first one they have did that has not worked, they also said that stents are not removable once inserted, not sure about this!

Mum has had first round of chemo, seems to have went ok, but she is still in so much pain with stent! She is on morphine and pain killers but nothing helping she feels like her oesophagus is ripping apart and she has a high pain threshold! Any one had this feeling?  Can I also ask has anyone had pain after Chemo, heart was fine and bloods were fine! I’m so worried as she can’t eat! I just really don’t know what I can do to help her feel so helpless! Her mood has went down so much!

Thank you

  • Hi  and welcome to the online community although I'm very sorry that you've had to find us.

I didn't have this type of cancer so don't have any experience to draw on to know if what your mum is experiencing is normal or not but I noticed that your post had gone unanswered.

I'm hoping that in the 2 days since you posted this your mum is feeling a lot better and her team have managed to sort out her pain. If not could I urge you to get in touch with her CNS as soon as possible so that this can be sorted.

When you feel up to it, it would be really useful if could pop something about your mum's journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

thank you so much for your reply, got doctor out who phoned hospital but as she has already been admitted twice they won’t do anything they said! Also consultant said can’t do anything now he has put stent in, so basically she has to suffer in pain at home but morphine not working she said it’s like someone is crushing her whole rib cage, they have really put her in so much discomfort!

Yes I will do that in my profile thank you, wasn’t sure how to work this many thanks xx

  • Could your mum speak to her CNS ?

The consultant might not be able to do anything about her stent but the CNS should be able to sort your mum's pain out. No one should be in that much discomfort. I know it's now the weekend so I don't know if the CNS will be available.

Don't be afraid to get in touch with NHS111 over the weekend if you need to.

She is on a high amount of morphine and anti-sickness but it’s not working! I just hope it settles soon or they can think of another solution! Thank you xx
