Hubbie home from day one of flot chemo, bag full of meds, instructions a plenty, infusion strapped to waist, but best of all a smile on his face, drinking lots of fluids had a great appetite and is really upbeat, so all in all, a good day. Back to hospital to disconnect the infusion, change dressing on iv picc line and check up tomorrow, but all good. Bring it on!!!
Thank you Kate for your kind words. I am so sorry that things are so tough for you both. Seeing our loved ones suffer is awful, I hope tomorrow goes smoothly. Please feel free to message me any time, my experience maybe somewhat limited, but I can offer you an ear if needed. There are so many lovely people on this site, maybe they will be able to help you with your hubbies weight loss problems by suggesting some recipes or supplements etc. My very best wishes to you both x
Hi Luv Chox,
There are many of us who have been on this journey of treatment and we are here to help in any way we can. I'm one of the lucky ones that have been successfully treated (i'm in remission). As a primary carer (like my wife was) I appreciate it's a tough journey for you too.
Hi, thank you for taking the time to read my posts and reply, today is really the first time the side effects of either the chemo or possibly any of the other meds, has reared its ugly head. Hubby is tired, he only sleeps for a couple of hours, then because of all the water he has been drinking he needs loo, suffered constipation initially, took senna, didn't feel any benefit, left it until next night, took more senna, then everything swung the other way!, on and off loo all night. Today he feels drained, he's not in a huge amount of pain, but I know he's suffering, oh and his testicles are aching? no one warned him of this, although reading online it could be caused by chemo or possibly steroids, who knows! The fact you have been successfully treated and are now in remission is wonderful news, please pass on my very best wishes to your wife
Hi - I have completed my 3rd FLOT and had the same issues your husband had initially - and no one warned me either - I can only tell the pain and stress is something to behold for a man - I took senna for a day but I read about changing my diet and ended up with ensuring I was drinking 2/3/4 litres of water a day - I distilled my water following a recommendation from my brother - eating as much vegetables and fruit as possible adding seeds including sesame seeds , chia seeds , pumpkin and lately linseeds to literally everything I ate - cutting out dairy as much as possible and red meat - I made myself lots of vegetable soups adding soup mix (barley split peas lentils) as the steroids had me eating constantly - I also started to follow the Dr Joanna Budwig diet - you can read about that at www.flaxfarm.co.uk - I have to say I spent most of the days cooking and eating which is draining in itself - I also did have the odd Fish and Chips so not totally saintly when I was totally starving - I also tried to get as much exercise as possible - but usually it was on the day after FLOT finished but knackered on Day 2 ,3 and 4 - had flaying arms after the 2nd lot of FLOT took pain killers to get over that for the 3rd lot - its a lot of pain but you forget about it after - FLOT seems to work my results say that after 3 FLOT and I am now discussing if we should do the 4th. Nutrition and Exercise along with the Chemo is a good idea a Danish study across 700 trials and 50,000 people published in January suggest that too. Yestolife.org is a good site too pick up information. I also slept a lot during the cycles.
Let me know if want any further info on what I have done.
Each person is unique and what works for one will not necessarily work for another person - medicine is not a black and white science and we do not all wear size 9 shoes.
Regards
John
