so a couple of weeks back my dad who is 65 was diagnosed with cancer in his oesophagus there was also something sowing on his liver and required a PET scan to see if this was cancerous.  I am devastated went with him for the results today and it is cancerous and is also in his bones.  He has gone down hill since his first diagnosis not being able to eat much due to indigestion etc.  I’m heartbroken they were talking pain relief helping him to eat with meal replacements which he has been doing.  I don’t know how long he has I have no idea if he will go downhill quickly or whether chemo will be an option when he goes to see oncology on 17th of this month.  Should he have chemo or will that make him more ill that he can’t enjoy the life he has left.  Has anyone any experience of this I don’t know what to expect or how long he may have x

  • Hi

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently discovered that your dad's cancer has spread to his liver and bones.

I don't have the experience you're looking for but I noticed that your post had gone unanswered. By replying it will bump it back to the top of the page where it may be seen by someone with the right experience.

Has your dad been assigned a cancer nurse specialist (CNS) because these are the sort of questions you could ask her if you don't get a response from the members of this group?

Although it's natural to want to know how long someone has left this can only ever be an average as everyone reacts differently to treatment and it also depends on any other underlying medical conditions. Also, be mindful that your dad might not want to know the answer to this question!

    Sending a supportive ((hug))
