Well getting scan results on Friday 13th definitely doubled my stress levels.

My previous scan in Oct showed thickening in the area I had the tumour before chemo and radiotherapy and that it had spread to lymph nodes on both sides. I was told I was too high risk for further treatment so we were talking months now not years.

Today's results for my scan in January showed nothing in oesophagus and no lymph node involvement. They did point out small nodules in the lungs but said they could be inflammatory which makes sense as I have been fighting a chest infection on and off since December and Oncologist feels that because of this they are probably inflammatory.

I am really pleased with these results but at the same time shocked and confused. Has anyone here had anything similar happen?

  • Christ sharon i cant imagine the hell you must have gone through, no wonder you are reeling, thank god its this way around, did they explain how or why, and was it a ct scan or pet scan.

    so glad for your news

    thank you jules

  • Hi Jules.

The past 3 months have been hard, but I was just grateful that I didn't seem to be deteriorating at all, and I could still eat a normal diet so not losing weight.

I just feel confused that in the last 2 scans it has gone from spreading to then nothing without any treatment at all since the chemo and radiotherapy a year ago.

  • its just mental, i was told that my ct scans wouldnt have shown up the new cancer anyway, so why do them, know what you mean about eating normally and getting the weight on and or stable. i only have 1 immunotherapy to do in march, if they dont cancel it, so confused, did it work, and it means the cancer is smaller, or did it do nothing and i had all the monthly anxiety attacks for nothing, wish more of this made sense, so glad though yours has shown what it has this time,

would love to know how they explain this!!Hugging

  • Got everything crossed for you that it will be good news

  • thanks, am hoping it will be radiotherapy treatment only, I know they said it was a deep node, so cant see surgery being an option, see what the oncologist says, at least ive been treated by him before, so a famiiar face. this waiting is nuts!!

  • This journey has so many ups and downs, not to mention the stress of three monthly scans and waiting for results.

All I can do now is wait for my next results and hope that whoever analysed this scan didn't mess up and miss what the previous scan showed.

I hope you get some good news too, let us know how you get on

  • I don’t think anyone has messed up in reporting your scans. My cancer is behaving in a very similar way. Scans alone cannot confirm the presence of cancer. That would need a cell biopsy.
I have been under CT scan surveillance for over a year and early scans after radiotherapy and chemotherapy did report a thickening in the area where my tumour is. This terminology I assumed to be because an image cannot definitively call this cancer.
I’ve had about 5 CT scans so far and the thickening has diminished. No indication of spread. And nodules on lungs been and gone.

It is most perplexing and unexplainable and conflicts with everything I thought I knew about cancer.
