I’ve just been diagnosed with Oesophagus cancer. MDT was Wednesday. Just waiting for treatment plan. I’m in so much pain, why is every second I feel like it’s spreading through out my body, I’ve asked if it’s aggressive. Can it spread in 10 days? Why is my pain increasing.  I had throat cancer 15yrs ago, and have a laryngectomy. So I’ve been down this road before.  How long from MDT to treatment starting (chemo/radio)? Thanks everyone

  • Hi Sash, sorry to hear your problems and if you notice I have been down the same route a Laryngectomy and also OS cancer.

Unfortunately I didn’t suffer any effects with my OS cancer it was found 12 months after my Lary op and at one of my scan results, I’d had no issues with swallowing other than what I had been warned about at the time of the throat cancer and that was more my sore throat and hoarse voice no food problems

My Consultant assured me that it wasn’t connected in anyway to my Voicebox cancer as she assured me she got all that cancer, I didn’t have any Radiotherapy after the Lary op so meant I could have the Chemo and RT for it, and after 4 years of 3 monthly checks I am thankfully still clear of the OS cancer and signed off for the Lary cancer side but am still having 3 monthly scan checks

You may go through quite a few tests before the treatment plan gets going I had endoscopy and also a liver check in all I would say it was a couple of months of tests etc before my treatment started they have to be very precise for the RT treatment in particular, have they said its that treatment and not an operation depends where the cancer is in your Oesophagus, mine was just above the chest area.

If you want any more info from me just get back to me, hope they get going quickly for you but they assured me that the cancer doesn’t grow too quickly
