Painful diaphragm

My dad had an Ivor Lewis operation nearly 18 months ago. In the passes 2 months he has lost about a stone and has muscle pain in his diaphragm- he says it’s like he has done abs training- but in the top bit. He has lost his appetite ans can’t sleep.

His GP is monitoring, but we are getting pretty concerned and not sure which way for go. Dad is pretty passive 8in some ways and will follow the process a bit- so is waiting to see if sleeping tablets help- or if he loses more weight.

Have any of you had diaphragm pain? What would you do?!

Many thanks x

    1. I’d speak to his surgical or oncology team.  Do you have contact details for his specialist upper GI nurse?  That would be my first point of contact.
  • Absolutely contact the Upper GI team. My dad had pain in his leg for 2 months with the assumption it was sciatica and it's turned out to be a cancer in his spinal cord. He has had the Ivor Lewis as well as all the pre and post FLOT bar one post FLOT session. I hope for a positive outcome for your dad.
