Hi. I'm 6 weeks post op, I was lucky enough to have robotic surgery and recovery has been going well so far. I met with my oncologist today to discuss post op results/margins. She has said that it has come back positive (she said that over 1mm is clear and my one was 0.7mm) and that they found cancer in 3 of the 30 lymph nodes they took out. They are giving me another 4 rounds of flot chemo starting soon. At the appointment she seemed quite positive saying that although it's not clear there was still some clear margin. I don't know how to feel about it as I feel that it's not a great result but it also could've been worse. Just feel a bit flat about it all as I know recurrence for this type of cancer is high, just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation/how they feel. Thanks.
Hi Kirsty
I am pleased that you are recovering ok from your surgery.
My own cancer was different to yours but I remember the appointment after my surgery with my post op results. Mine weren't quite as expected and I remember that it was a time of worrying and also with lots of questions. My cancer was a grade 3 cancer and also has a higher recurrence rate. I do understand that it is not easy.
It sounds like your consultant is positive about the margins after surgery but that when checking the lymph nodes that some cancer was found in the minority of them- hence the need for a bit more chemo.
I understand that you are feeling a bit flat about it- I know for me I felt a bit flat for a while. I started to feel a bit better once treatment had started- I suppose for me it was about doing something active to deal with any remaining cancer.
Why not give the Support Line a call and talk things through with one of the nurses. They are there from 8am-8pm everyday. They would be able to explain things a bit better for you.
I wish you well with your chemo and if there is anything else you need, please do ask.
Jane
