Very Complex Case

Hi again

Dad has had 4 endoscopies, 3 sets of multiple biopsies taken.

All have come back either inconclusive or showing no cancer cells.

The doctors are baffled!

The CT and imaging during endoscopy show concerning malignacy looking tumour. Which has grown 1cm in 6 weeks.

We cannot get a confirmed diagnosis though because of the biopsies.

Did anyone experience anything similar?

Any ideas of what else it could be??

We were told 7 weeks ago that Dad had Stage 4, locally advanced, inoperable esophageal cancer. Likely with only months left.

We are going into Week 8 Monday - and still do not have a confirmation nor treatment plan!

Please, any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you!

science can be equivocal. Let’s hope your father’s case is a rare one where a benign growth has penetrated the outer oesophageal wall.

    Best wishes x

  • Hi, my husband had OC in 2008 and an oesophagectomy in 2009.  In 2012 the new consultant said, after the regular scan, that he thought it was back.  Eleven weeks and every possible scan/test later and various opinions, it was diagnosed as a rare, benign, Desmoid type tumour. I don’t know if something like this has been eliminated as a possibility but it might be worth mentioning it.

  • Hi,

Glad to read your husband’s second case was benign.

Interestingly, we have been reading about the Desmoid tumour. No mention from the Dr’s however.

How did they finally establish the difference?

  • The tests seemed endless but it wasn’t actually explained to us how they came to the conclusion about the Desmoid tumour, sorry I can’t help with that, it was presented as fact.  Consultants & experts were involved from various hospitals and laboratories which is why it took so long.
My husband had another huge op and it was removed, along with part of a lung and six rib sections for clearance.  He now has Gore-Tex prostheses in his ribs and you would never know.
I really hope you get some answers soon, it’s all so stressful. x
