Hi all

I was just wondering what the average time is between finishing FLOT and having surgery? In had my last FLOT on 24th January but my surgery isn’t booked until week beginning 24th March that’s 8 weeks. Have been sent away to get fit (which i am trying to do) but really just want to get on with the surgery. And did you feel that fitness helped your recovery ?

  • I did not have FLOT as I had the Dutch chemotherapy/radiotherapy programme. Time between last chemo and surgery was about 12 weeks. Getting as fit as possible prior to surgery is more than essential. Don't overdo it! good luck.

  • I wasn't in any fit state either mentally or physically after FLOT so I asked for extra time to get myself ready. I used that extra time to do lots of things including a nice holiday in Croatia, meeting friends and family, putting on as much weight as I could and getting to the gym every day! It was 13 weeks after my last chemo session and I felt so much better. I think the average time is around 6 - 8 weeks though.

  • We were told at diagnosis that the surgery pathway would be chemo then 6/8 weeks to recover prior to the op. We are with the surgeon tomorrow and will ask him about this.

  • And getting as much weight on as possible too!! Grin

  • Yes I was also told the same thing 6-8 weeks between last FLOT and surgery Linda x

  • That’s the problem I don’t want to put weight on as I’m still overweight !!

  • hope all goes well tomorrow, he’s lovely, have you got the dog sorted as it’s a long day !! Without the 2hr journey!

  • Oh the organisation …. we can’t leave Toby our dog alone as he’s severely epileptic and on loads of meds that make him anxious. We’ll be up at 5, walking him at 6, my sister will walk her dog at 6 and come in to dog sit at 7. She’s got a dog walker in twice for her dog.  She’ll stay at ours all day and walk Toby in the afternoon. She’ll have to sort all his meds which are time critical. If we leave here at 7 and head to Long Ashton park and ride we should get into city centre by 8.30 giving time to allow for delays.
Hope it won’t be too late when we get away. What a day!!

  • Yes park and ride is the best option as you’re not worried about the parking assuming you find somewhere to park ! Glad you’ve got Toby sorted we loved having dogs but they are a tie which is why we now just dog sit for children’s dogs. Hope all goes well Tricia c

  • Yes I guess that’s right I just have to be patient!
