Chris is now day 8 after final pre op FLOT and boy what a difference. The first three were unpleasant but manageable but this cycle is off the scale by comparison. Extreme fatigue,he’s given up and been in bed most of the last couple of days,  eyes and nose runThinkingng so badly his skin is irritated, coughing and the skin on the backs of his hands is so angry and cracking …. likewise both little toes and heels. The skin on his face has darkened …. it’s like a port wine stain mask which is worrying. Cancer helpline said palmar/plantar syndrome but I thought that was palms and soles Thinking
CT scan due tomorrow which won’t be fun. Sorry to moan, so many are coping with much worse  ….. would appreciate any further tips to help him.

  • Hello Geraldine. No need to apologise. It sounds like Chris has had a really bad reaction to the chemo. I hope everything heals soon and he feels better able to get up and about. So-called duvet days are supposed to be good for us!

    No tips, I'm afraid.

    Just sending a big hug!

  • Thank you ….. means a lot Rose

  • So sorry to hear this, sounds like he’s really going through it thank goodness it’s the last one ! Hope all goes well tomorrow take care Tricia x

  • Hi Geraldine,

I found my fourth pre-op FLOT very difficult too. Took me about 2 weeks to start feeling any better after it. My face also looked like I’d been well slapped and my sensitivity to cold also felt more pronounced. But it did all clear up. I ended up having my surgery 4 weeks after my 4th cycle and, although I felt that I was only just recovered from the chemo, I was also glad to get the tumour removed from my body. That was nearly a year ago now (surgery on 29th Feb) and on Thursday my wife and I are flying out to Chile for a 31 night South American cruise. So hang on in there. It’s a long and slow road to recovery but things do get better. CB

  • Thank you all of you for your support.

chris got worse this evening and spiked a high temperature so we were told to get him into hospital. They are keeping him in and giving him iv antibiotics as his neutrophils are still so low. The skin on his hands is blistering now and so painful also his face. Dr thinks possibly an autoimmune reaction but will see the consultant tomorrow. I hated leaving him there but I know it’s best. He’s now grumpy as he’s cold and says the person in the next bed is a champion snorer. Probably not the best time to point out he’s been like that since chemo started. Thinking  Crossing fingers there is improvement tomorrow .
