Tumour is 4-5 cms in the lower oesophagus. Finally have at least a treatment plan although still waiting for an oncologist appointment. 4 x chemo cycles, surgery, then 5 more chemo cycles. Can’t tell you how terrified I am. I hope to come out the other side with some quality of life but still unsure if this is the way to go even though it means living longer. I am 62 live on my own and need my independence
It can be a bit scary when your first diagnosed but so many people on this site have come through ! You will soon be reassured and you will gain information that will be invaluable Tricia x
I have my fitness test on Monday hoping that will be OK but my laparoscopy cut is infected so on antibiotics for a week and it’s still very sore Linda x
Yes I’m 67 and was a bit worried about my fitness test but only had to get up from a chair without using my arms for 30 seconds and walk up and down a corridor with a slight incline although I have been told I need to get fitter before the surgery to give me a better recovery ! Hope your fitness test goes well on Monday !
Hello Linda.
It is an emotional rollercoaster, particularly before treatment gets underway. It's fine and natural to have down days. Try to build in little treats, meeting a friend for coffee, a gentle walk, watch a favourite film, listen to favourite music, phone people you might not have spoken to for a while. My husband has been doing loads to keep his mind from staying in the pit. His Mum and sisters have never had so many visits from him.
You can do practical things too to get a sense of achievement and staying in control. Rod got our wills amended, found cheaper car insurance and recovery, got our tatty old front door replaced, amongst many other things. He's also started playing his guitar again, which is lovely.
I hope today is a better one for you.
Sending love,
Lorraine x
My surgeon, when I very first met him, bluntly said "You're in for a shit year, but we can cure you". I had the FLOT/op/FLOT treatment, and am now over a year clear. He wasn't wrong about the shit year though! My bio tells my story, but you CAN do this, and we on here can support you every step of the way.
I know exactly how you're feeling, and it's scary, upsetting and the worst of times. But it won't always be like that. It gets easier when treatment starts and you have light at the end of the tunnel to focus on.
Wishing you well on what is undoubtedly a horrendous journey, but you'll do this and get through it. All the very best for the coming months. xx
I know how you feel but I’m sure it won’t ! I have finished my FLOT but it’s going to be 8 weeks before I have my surgery and you do worry that it might start growing again but they know what their doing and have done it many times before ! So you just have to put your trust in them ! Where are you having your treatment?
