Group experience please in respect of surveillance.
Have been advised that following post surgery FLOT chemo and irrespective of whether all 4 cycles are completed there is no standard for timely scan surveillance.
It was explained that any contact would be a phone call every 3 months from CNS.
Apart from that asked to report when symptoms/problems occur. Presuming this would be pain (local or distant /problems swallowing.
Would appreciate others experience in NHS
Hi. I have not had post op. FLOT but I have attended the hospital clinic at 3/4 month intervals for past 18 months post surgery. Had CT scan after 12 months and barium swallow after 15 months. Will have endoscopy check at some time soon. Can speak to the clinic lead any time if concerned. They are fantastically supportive. From previous comments on this site then it is apparent that different trusts have different protocols on follow up.
Thanks for your reply Anglars, which actually raised a couple more questions if you were able to answer.
wondering why you didn’t have the post Ivor Lewis FLOT.
Was your 12 month CT scan as a result of symptoms. I’ve read that CT Scan is not as reliable as PET for mets.
thanks
I'm coming to the end of my post op FLOT and am enrolled on the SARONG trial which does intensive follow ups for two years.
Thanks for replying. Can I ask how you discovered this trial?
It was through my MDT, they're actively recruiting right now so get on to them! You'll be randomly placed in one of two groups, one being a control group who receives the standard post FLOT care and then the proactive one which delivers more intensive follow up tests e.g 6 month PET scan and 12 month endoscopy
Thanks again, I’ve tried to find out which locations are on the list of 28 participating units, without success so far…
If you're on Twitter you can find them on there. They're currently looking to expand so even if your hospital isn't on the list presently they may well add them if there is interest from patients

This should be what you need
My dad is on the trial, he finished his post op chemo at the beginning of last month, he's in the surveillance group.
