Hi all,
My Dad is stage 4 terminal.. but the cancer has not spread. His Tumour was 13.5cm but 12 rounds of Folfox has reduced it to 4.8cm. We were told it was severely impacting his windpipe, so surgery was not an option..but now it's shrunk so much I just don't understand why they can't operate. Initially he couldn't eat at all, but as it's shrunk he can now eat most foods if he's careful. His 3 month scan showed no new growth of the Tumour so why can't they operate. He is 77 which I feel is a factor?
My dads surgeon said ultimately it was fitness and other health conditions that determined who was a candidate for surgery, not so much age. Are you able to talk to one of his consultants and find out why?
All the best
Ahh this may be why..he has ground glass in his lungs from years of being a welder. I am going to ask for him regardless. He also has aspiration from coughing while the Tumour was still large.. x
My dad had to have one of his lungs collapsed as part of his surgery to get to the oesophagus which I think is standard practice, his chest still isn't right now nearly 3 months after his op. Definitely worth asking the question though, if nothing else for your understanding.
Ahh hope ur Dad starts feeling better soon..its a very involved surgery . Yea that is standard procedure..I watched the op in full on TV...still not sure if that was a good idea tbh lol! But want to know as much as poss x. We are back to Oncology in Jan so will push a bit more then xx
