Hi

Just had results of ct scan after chemo radiation treatment for T3 N1 M0 oesophageal cancer results not good the tumour has not gone I have now been referred for a endoscope (camera) for more biopsies to see what treatment I can have going forward. Is there anyone that have had the same results and what treatment they are having

  • Hello Janey

I do not have my results yet but I am in the 6 week period of recovery after the same treatment as yourself for T3 N0 M0.  (I am assuming you have had definitive or radical chemoradiotherapy and not neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy).
My scans and endoscopy will be done in January.  Statistically, I am expecting the same outcome as yourself.
So I am interested to hear what our second line options might be. In anticipation of this I have asked if there are any characteristics of my tumour that could be targeted eg by immunotherapy. The answer I got was that this will only be looked at if/when it becomes relevant (relevant being distant metatisis).
My concern is my tumour type is adenocarcinoma and the database for chemoradiation is predominantly squamous cell carcinoma. May I ask what cell type your tumour is derived from?
    kind regards

  • Hi Jayne

I wouldn't be too downhearted as the vast majority of tumours do not disappear after chemotherapy. Did they say it had reduced in or maintained it's size.

Mine reduced to make it easier to remove but it was still around 4cm when it was taken out.

What did your MDT say about the next steps?

    Best Wishes

  • Hi Bilious Bob

unfortunately I cannot have a operation because I already got secondary breast cancer in the spine.the oesophageal cancer is a new primary I was told today that there was not much change on the last scan I had, they also told me they will arrange for me to have a endoscope so they can take some biopsies and decide whether I can have more chemotherapy or other treatment also they will decide when they do the endoscope whether to put a stent in.

  • Hi Rosiee

sorry I am not sure what cell type it is .

mine is not operable because I already have secondary breast cancer in the spine, the oesophageal cancer is a new primary I was told in the start that it was treatable but not curable the oncologist team today told me they will arrange a endoscopy to take some biopsies and decide what treatment comes next.

  • Wow Jayne you've really been through the wringer by the sounds of it. Reading through you bio is an absolute inspiration to anyone who is feeling down by their own diagnosis. I sincerely hope that all the treatments that you're receiving do their thing and that you get back to some sort of normality before too long.

Wishing you all the very best and take care of yourself

  • Dear Janey

I am so sorry to hear that you have 2 forms of cancer. Life has been particularly unkind to you.
Even though my oesophageal cancer was localised at the start of my treatment, I too am not a suitable for surgery due to other health conditions.
To answer your original question about treatment options open to you this really does depend on your type of oesophageal cancer. Just as is the case with breast cancer there are different types: with differing options for treatment regimens and prognoses. So without specifying your type of oesophageal cancer it may be the case that you receive replies which are not relevant to you.  Plus of course, your unfortunate position of fighting 2 forms of cancer is an added complexity.

wishing you the best with whatever treatment your MDT (s) decide on.

    xxx
