hello. I just turned 39 years old and I am from Seville, Spain. I didn't expect that the swallowing difficulties that I began to suffer last summer could become so dangerous. Maybe because I didn't think that at my age I could have such a serious illness, I held on until last November when I decided to go to the emergency room because it was impossible for me to eat.
After the tests. "stage 4 esophageal cancer."
How many stages are there? ask the doctor.. "4" he answered me..
I was convinced that I had little time to live because the doctors avoided telling me anything, they didn't even give me an appointment for treatment.
After a lot of wandering, I started chemo in November and I'm going on my 5th cycle.
I'm drinking better now, and I'm coping with the side effects quite well, but I don't want to think about the terrible consequences if they decide to operate on me.
Here in Spain, although there are incredible doctors, they are not so advanced and I am terrified that they will screw up my operation... I would rather die than be left with such serious consequences...
anyway. I'll tell you.
Greetings.. and encouragement to all!
Hi Alex P24 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that you have been diagnosed with cancer but it's great that your chemotherapy is going well and you're coping with the side effects.
I don't have the same type of cancer as you but had chemotherapy so do understand some of the feelings you might have about it. I'm sure you'll find this forum really helpful if you've got any questions.
It would be really helpful if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
