Had incomplete endoscopy ( due to blockage ) on the 29th Sept informed malignant cancer, biopsies taken. Had CT scan yesterday rang nurse regarding what’s next, which I thought would be a PET scan, she tells me biopsy and Ct scan results will be in early next week and I will be meeting my team later in the week, also that I may not need a PET scan.

From what I see on the forum everyone seems to have a PET scan, I’m just getting a bit concerned with the time factor. Is this normal procedure.

thanks

  • Hi Albert51 my husband got diagnosed with cancer in March and had his op middle of September. There is a fair period of time so they can do all the tests and scans etc etc. good luck with everything I hope all goes well for you.

  • Hello Tink, thanks for your reply, it has made me feel a bit more comfortable. Good luck to your husband’s recovery.

    all the best

  • Hi ,

My understanding is a PET scan is an aid to staging our cancer (to determine treatment) and an indication all visible cancer has been removed? Depending on location, type of cancer, etc. will determine if PET scan's are required. I had PET scans pre treatment and post treatment over 5 years ago. My pre-treatment PET scan showed my main tumour and at least 6 lymph nodes light up. My post treatment PET scan showed nothing. PET scans are not without risk.
