been told will be ct scan every 3 months for first year this is privet treatment no mention of blood tests .
im just wondering what the standard follow up checks normally involve bloods ect and wouldn’t it be a pet scan ? Nhs or privet .
thanks all
Hi Mark b. My husband had four rounds of FLOT last summer. Oesophagectomy in October. Was extremely poorly after with double pneumonia and spent 6 weeks in ICU and eventually came home after nine weeks. Decided no follow up FLOT as too weak and needed to be done in 12 week window. But was told no further scans or blood tests etc as by the nature of the operation it was all removed. He was T3n1. Saw surgeon a month after discharge and just quarterly phone calls from Macmillan nurse now. This was on NHS.
glad you were able to have your second course of chemo. Good luck moving forward. My hubby doing brilliant. Back to golf albeit only 9 holes at the moment. Eating better than he thought he would despite having no appetite. Onwards and upwards!
Hi
I am with the NHS and follow ups for the first year are every 3 months without blood tests I am told scans will be yearly so I am having my first post op CT scan in October. The surgical team also asked my doctor to do blood tests every 3 months which is a general health check.
my cancer wasn’t picked up in blood tests before I was diagnosed so not sure how useful they would be for monitoring for me.
Hi Mark
I had my surgery in January and post surgery chemo. I've had one CT scan at the end of May and I'm having the next CT scan tomorrow. There aren't any blood tests part of monitoring. I'm sure there will be a follow up with the oncologist to discuss the results of this CT scan and I'm sure he'll let me know about the ongoing plan for monitoring.
I hope that helps
Suzy
