Hi everyone, my treatment is about to start this week when I see the Oncologist on Monday and have already been given an appointment on Tuesday to have a feeding tube fitted (been told this will require a 5 day stay in hospital), bit apprehensive about everything but looking forward to being well again as i am really struggling to eat now.
Into my second week with the NJ feeding tube and it's not going well, I am fed from 6.00pm till 8.0am on 1.4ltrs of Nutrison Peotien Plus Energy at the rate of 100Mls per hour, I have had a sore throat almost every day and my weight gain is minimal, I can not take much in the way of food or liquids orally as I am constantly bringing up most of what I swallow. I have a Chemo assessment on 28th February having had my blood tests done today and to be honest my energy levels are low. I hope the next few days sees some improvement in my well being.
Hi Skin….My husband had FLOT chemo last summer…every two weeks for four cycles…he found even after the first cycle that eating and drinking was a little bit easier and each cycle it was a bit better. He had his treatment on a Friday…he would feel very tired and nauseous on the sunday for a few days…..then he would improve over the rest of that first week…then the second week he felt reasonably well considering…then after the second cycle we thought..’ok…we,re half way through now’….then it seemed to pass reasonably quickly….Good luck with your treatment…..will be thinking of you!
I'm sorry it's not gone well, fingers crossed it will get better.
I didn't gain weight with my feed, but it helped with maintaining weight.
I also tweaked my rate to get a good balance, as I had so.e issues with the feed backing up!
I hope your assessment goes well
Hi
It is good to start treatment I was relieved.
I also had FLOT chemo to start then the op and I am half way through my last 4 cycles of FLOT. It is hard and a lot of not feeling good. Reading this forum everyone seems to have different severity of side affects to the chemo, I have quite a few but the oncology team and my GP have been really good at helping me with them. strangely I found the first 4 cycles harder than these last ones (so far).
I think the whole thing is tough, it’s hard but with any luck it works so is worth it.
Had my first round of FLOT yesterday and to be honest it was nowhere near as daunting as I had expected I even came home with some colour in my face !, I know its early days but I feel fine if only a little bit tired, I am keeping to all the rules, well my hubby is making sure I am, but to all those heading into treatment try not to be overwhelmed and keep calm, the staff at my hospital, James Cook, have been brilliant and I am a lot more optimistic heading forward on my journey, I'll keep you posted as I go.
