Hi All,
Firstly, I am sorry we all find ourselves Here.
My dad has recently been diagnosed with stomach and oesophageal cancer.
We are awaiting an appt for a PET scan to see if the cancer has spread. The consultant said at best My dad can have chemo and surgery to remove the tumour. However consultant is arranging a fitness test whilst we await the pathology results from biopsies taken.
My dad can barely walk the length of himself before becoming breathless etc.
Can anyone shed some light on a fitness test for a 71yr old.
Many thanks
Bernadette
HI, sorry to find you here but my partner went through this last year, hes 47. Although they say fitness test its a walking test, if i remember rightly similar to what you would do in school PE class the bleep test. They just get you to go as far as you can for as long as your able. Hope this helps its nothing to scary for your dad he just does what he can. xx
I've EC and had two fitness tests - one was to walk up and down a corridor for x number of minutes and the second, I believe a PBX test(?) was on a stationary bike with heart rate monitor, measured O2 supply through the mouth with a nose peg on, for x minutes with exertion level and breathing rate measured.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
