How long post operatively does it take to eat small amounts of normal textured foods? Any information would be much appreciated.. Just thinking ahead and trying to plan somewhat.
Do you mean non soft foods? For me after I came out of hospital after 8 days, I could eat about half a slice of toast with butter and jam straightaway, ate it slowly (finger sized) and over about 15 minutes. It’s a bit hit and miss to be honest as couldn’t eat bread or my favourite soft fish such as basa fillets or cod and salmon for about 2-3 months as it would come straight back up again after just a small mouthful!
I was ok with cheese on toast but beans were difficult for first few weeks, even mashed potato. The only meat I eat is chicken anyway and couldn’t eat this for a couple of months without it coming up again.
I ate wotsits quite a lot as these went down well from the start and my husband’s home made soup was a godsend as was ice cream. I love curries and Chinese and could eat these after about 2 months.
I am 7 months post op now and can eat what I want now but still in much smaller quantities
Good luck
Hi Browndog,
Thankyou for your reply it has been most helpful to hear how you managed postoperatively . I know realise that trial and error is going to be the order of the day. Pleased to hear you are doing so well at 7 months and long may it continue.
Thankyou again.
