Dad can’t keep anything down

Hi all,

my dad had a reaction after his chemo and was in hospital for a few days. He is now home but can’t keep anything down, even the anti sickness medication so they are going to put a syringe driver in him for 48 hours to see if it helps him eat and drink and then go from there. So so worried that it means we don’t have much time left. Anyone else experienced this?

  • 24 hours not 48. He has oesophageal cancer with spread to local lymph nodes. It’s a re occurrence so surgery isn’t an option as he had this with the first diagnosis

  • Hi there!

I was on a 24 syringe driver with sickness meds whilst I was getting chemo.

I suffered with sickness and nausea terribly. I was hospitalised alot when I was getting chemo but I am still here to tell the tale Slight smile.

Ate loads of different sickness meds each day even with the syringe driver. I would also end up with painful bruising at location of the syringe driver too. At then end of my treatment the location of the driver needed to be changed daily - didn't actually know the reason why.

If one didn't work, I was given another in various different combinations to alleviate the symptoms I was facing.

It was a terrible time but persevere.

If the meds don't work or your dad's suffers from side effects then contact the oncologist or the cancer hospital helpline etc to get his meds changed.

As long as he is comfortable.
