Hi my husband has had a stent fitted after having difficulty swallowing after having surgery 20 weeks ago.  This was following 5 dialations which didn't work.  So he had it fitted 2 days ago.  He now has permanent hiccups plus is retching all the time.   He still cannot eat and can only take sips of water.   I am really worried that there is something wrong with the stent.  Has anyone got experience with this?  Any advice is much appreciated

  • Hi Dinard

Are you able to contact your Husbands Oncologist or Cancer Nurse? these guys should be able to give advice and maybe even check to see if the stent is situated well.

I have no experience of Stents so I am unable to offer any other advice, but I hope others may come along here and reply to your post.

I do hope he finds some comfort soon

  • Hi thanks for your reply.   Just an update.   He ended up going back into hospital on monday.  So 2 days after being discharged.   They did a ct scan which showed that the stent if ok and in the right place with no holes or tears.   So good news.  He is still in hospital and having drugs for sickness and hiccups through a drop. Plus pain relief through drip.  He was hydrated due to not being able to drink.  Hopefully he will be out tomorrow.   So then he can move forward with eating from a liquid diet to soft food diet.  Fingers crossed

Thank you for this update it is in some ways good news, and the fact that he has been rehydrated is brilliant. I hope he has been able to come home and is feeling a little more comfortable

    Good luck to you both
