Swallowing problems

I was diagnosed last year and have had chemo and radiotherapy followed by surgery. At this stage they discovered there had been some spread. Despite this I am making a very good recovery and getting back my original strength and stamina. I do have problems with swallowing though. Firstly a feeling of constriction when I swallow and then on occasion coughing and wheezing a few minutes after eating followed by bringing up large quantities of thick saliva. I wonder if anyone else has these problems and any suggestions to try and ease them.

  • Have you spoke about getting stretched or stent? If you don’t me asking where was the surgery? Xx

  • I haven't as yet, however I am booked in for a swallow test later this March. Hopefully this finds the problem and a solution.

  • Sorry I realise I didn't answer your other question.  I had Ivor Lewis oesphagectomy. The whole oesphagus was removed and my stomach pulled up and joined at the throat. I've actually looked at a couple of previous posts about the swallowing issue and it was suggested that using antihistamine might help. I'm going to give this a try.
