My niece has had surgery and has drain on her throat for discharge and tube for feed on stomach .
It is still nil by mouth as she had a stent put in to try heal a small hole in her throat.
This has now got fungal infection and is discharging badly . The only to get Voriconazole medication is to make it into powder mix with water
and feed it in her feeding tube. She also is on Thyroid medication which is fed same way.
Problem now is the area around the throat is now very inflamed and sore plus she has a cough and is Covid +ve so she cannot go in for
stent adjustment as it has moved .
We were advised that the draining tube could be removed in 1 or 2 weeks post operation but because she has SLE and Sjogren's syndrome
her recovery is very slow and draining for her and for us.
Any comments gratefully accepted.
Hi Master Gee and a warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read all that you and your niece are going through at the moment and it does sound like a very difficult time.
I'm not a member of this group but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where it stands more chance of being seen.
While you're waiting for replies it would be great if you could pop something about your niece's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
