Hi all...I'm due to start radiotherapy on Monday,  I've been told it takes a few sessions before the side effects start

Can anyone tell me how it effected them, I'll be getting radiotherapy 5 days a week for 5 weeks at a higher dose of 60Gy so the side effects may be worse

Thanks Neil

  • Hi  sorry you haven't had a response but by replying to you it will bump your post back up to the top where someone who has had radiotherapy might see it this time and get back to you.

I had radiotherapy for breast cancer, I had the higher intensity one every day for 5 days.  Symptoms started on day 3 I think with slightly pink skin, then on day 4 the tiredness kicked in but neither were too bad.

It took me a number of months to get over the tiredness and go back to normal energy levels but it didn't affect my life much, I just did less and rested more.

Hope it all goes well for you.

  • Hi

my hubby has recently finished chemo and radiotherapy, He coped really well, his side effects were minimal and controlled with the meds they gave him.
his scan is next week to see how it’s worked.
hope all goes well for you.

  • Hi there...thanks for the reply.

I've completed 5 days now...back on it tomorrow....Friday & yesterday were basically written off as I was so exhausted...never felt like that before but a bit chirpier today.

I can feel the irritation starting too...hopefully it won't get too bad but I am noticing it's getting difficult to swallow again....appetite isn't very good either.

    Cracking on though

    Cheers Neil

  • Hi

sorry to hear your not feeling to good. Hopefully they will manage your side effects. And you will not feel any worse.

we had our scan results and the little critter has shrunk, so plan is for surgery now. Early feb. Still showing in lympth nodes but not as many.

Stage now is T2 N1 and Mo. So thankfully not spread.
    take care
