Hi my mum has just been diagnosed with gallbladder cancer and secondary liver cancer plus possibly in her lymph nodes, at the moment she has an external drainage bag in to collect bile as she had jaundice but that has cleared but in order to see if she can get chemo she needs to get a right and left stent in to allow bile to flow and not be obstructed, the last surgeon that attempted it couldn't get a stent in but the consultant my mum has, has a got a good team for her to get these stents in this time round. The cancer is inoperable just manageable unfortunately but we are positive that with my mum being a healthy women for her age she can and will fight this horrible disease. Muscle

  • Hi Mazza

I'm so sorry to hear about your mum's diagnosis. I don't really have any words of profound wisdom but I do hope she has a more successful experience with the second attempt with stents.

I've been dealing with gallbladder cancer for coming up to 10 years (January) but what I do know is that each person reacts differently to all forms and stages of cancer and treatments.

I was diagnosed at stage 3 at the age of 46 yrs old but mine was operable and after a liver resection I was able to have chemotherapy for 6 months. Mine metastasised and came back in other areas of my body (bowel, abdomen etc) a couple of times but again I was incredibly lucky that further surgeries and another round of chemotherapy has kept it at bay now for 3 years.

So even though I'm now stage 4 and incurable please don't lose faith and try to keep a positive attitude to it all, try not to read too much into statistics as it can have a really negative impact on you.

I wish you all well and I'm sending gentle hugs to your mum.
