Hi I am in cycle 2 of chemo and the last few days I have loss complete taste in my mouth, can’t have tea or coffee at all and got an awful sickly feeling at times.
I am on stronger anti sickness tablets so hopefully that will ease the sickness.
it’s the loss of taste and the metallic taste in my mouth that I can abide can anybody help me or advise me please
Hi again Carolinemia the ‘sucking an old penny in the mouth’ taste is one of the unfortunate side effects of having treatment but it is important to remember that this is temporary and will pass.
It’s not great when everything tastes metallic but you have to get past looking for things to taste ok…… during treatment your body needs to be well hydrated and food is fuel and your body needs fuel regardless how it tastes.
I found sucking on crushed pineapple and melon that had been put in ice cube trays and frozen as great regular relief. Sucking on hard toffees like werther's originala were good to take the taste away.
Thank you highlander for the great tips, I will give the pineapple and melon a try.
I do hope it’s only temporary as I love tea.
I am eating okey and getting enough food in me it’s just that awful taste that I can’t seem to shift. I know when I was pregnant many years ago I got the metallic taste and went off a lot of food it’s just not very pleasant
Yes it’s pants as my oldest granddaughter would say but it will pass once your treatment is complete and it’s out of your system.
The more you drink the more the toxins will be flushed through your body
So drinking more fluids will hopefully get rid of that awful taste?
I normally drink gallons of water.. however that I struggling with at the minute.. I diluting my water with blackcurrant and orange, I am nowhere near drinking as much as I used to though
Flushing the toxins out of your body will help, no guarantees that it will fix all the taste problems but it will help.
