About three weeks after my first infusion (Feb 9/10), my ears became plugged. The exact day was March 8 and they've been plugged every day ever since. Not painful at all, but lots of crackling and sounds are muffled. On bad days, I can hear my heartbeat in my ears. Most days, my own voice sounds distant to me, like it’s on the other side of a door or like I'm wearing ear muffs.
I don’t have allergies and it’s not earwax. They both plugged on the same day. Just curious if this could be related to treatment? Of course, things I have read say that some chemo drugs can cause hearing damage.
I know, I know. Ask my doctor. Just thought I’d ask a whole group of folks who have had the same exact chemical that I am infusing to see if anyone else has had this as a side effect.
Hi again, this can actually happen with many of the drugs used for treating Lymphomas.
It can be rather like Tinnitus and some or all the same symptoms you are describing but most folks find it will clear once your treatment is finished and it’s out of your system…… but for some, like me I was left with permanent hearing damage and now have to ware two hearing aids.
My Right Ear has 85% loss with remaining 15% a muffled sound with continues pulsing 24/7 and Left Ear 50 – 60% loss + Tinnitus and I hear my heartbeat 24/7
Do talk it through with your team.
Cool. Hair loss and hearing loss. I have managed to pull the short straw on two of the ‘less common’ side effects. I'll be reaching out to my oncologist today.
I appreciate you and your wealth of knowledge! And I’m sorry you have experienced such dramatic hearing loss. I suppose, in the grand scheme of things, some hearing loss is a solid trade-off for beating C****r.
I have to say the lack of hearing can come in very handy at times when I want to get out of doing things I am told to do by my wife
Ha! Lucky you! I cant play that game. My husband already pretends like he doesnt hear ME and he's not hard of hearing.
