Hi folks,

I know travel insurance is a regular question in here but unfortunately my search doesn't seem to be working.

My partner is 40 next year and has always wanted to go to Cuba.  He's been an absolute rock the last year and really deserves a special holiday.  Trying to do some research and check if I can get travel insurance,  medical insurance is a requirement for entry to Cuba. Does anyone know who best to use? So far been quoted as much as the holiday which of course I can't afford.

  • Hi Rach, until I started my main treatment back in 2013 I had been able get travel insurance for the USA but once I was into my main treatment and even 9 years on I can’t get a price that does not have 000 at the end of the price to go out from Europe…… haven’t even looked at prices in these vivid times!!!

It took me to be 3 years post my last treatment and be 2 years in remission to get a good price for Europe only.

You may want to look and post in our main community Travel insurance group

  • Thanks Mike, it's a bloody nightmare.  Hopefully I'll find something.  I'll give that a wee try. Thank you Blush

  • Hi Rach, I had dlbc which is a different type but found I could get worldwide insurance including the US from around a year beyond treatment at costs that were dearer than before diagnosis but still less than the £200 mark for an annual policy. Not sure how covid is impact prices now, it may have settled, but sadly the only way to find out the cost is to either use a comparison site or trawl through the various options. My experience was its best left until treatment has finished and probably at least 6 months on. The other key thing is to ensure that the consultant marks your file fit to travel.

The final tip is I was able to apply to an insurance provider who provides insurance to certain sectors, or professions which I used the last couple of times we went away. The advantage was they only asked some key questions so you did not have to give a full medical history, the questions were have you had a terminal diagnosis and are you traveling against medical advice, so much simpler. Hope you can find something and that you might be eligible for such cover
