Morning all

I was diagnosed with nhfl in Feb this year, have undergone 6 rounds of o-chop and after my pet scan was given the good news of full remission.

I have a lot of pain in my hips, knees and feet and wanted some advice on what supplements would be good to take from people that have been through the same, there's so much information and options out there!!!! It becomes a minefield.

Thank you in advance for any help advice.

  • Hi  and welcome to this corner of the Community although always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our blood cancer groups.

I don’t have NHFL but was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rare incurable but treatable type of skin NHL Stage 4a (CTCL) and although my Lymphoma ‘type’ is different I have experienced most types of treatments used but not necessarily the exact same drug mix but understand this journey rather well unfortunately.

First well done getting though your o-chop and and archiving remission, it must have been a great relief.

It looks like you are only a few months out from your treatment so your body is still in recovery. It can’t be overestimated the effects chemo has on all the body so the pain you are experiencing in my hips, knees and feet is rather normal.

For general well-being supplements like Adcal-D3 contain calcium and vitamin D3 which are both essential for healthy bones and teeth but it’s also very important to follow a healthy balanced diet as this is the best way to support your body.

However when it comes to the aches and pains the main fix is regular exercise. During treatments you are less active resulting in muscle wastage. These muscles need to be built back up.

My many years of treatment (hit my community name for my story) ended up with me in a wheelchair as I could just not walk safely so it took a lot of perseverance and physiotherapy to get me back walking. It took a good two years for my many aches and pains to go. But I got there and am doing good.

I don’t know if you were into any type of exercise before you started treatment as it would be worth looking at this again.

The treatment ‘left overs’ can take time to work out of our bodies.

My head Consultant told me that going through Lymphoma treatments was like doing a boxing match and a marathon every day I was on treatments and this was all done without any training…… so we need to be kind to ourselves Wink

You may want to check with your clinical team/Specialist Cancer Nurse/GP as to the best supplements for you as I get my vitamins on prescription.

Happy to chat this through more.
