Hi dad has been taken 20 prednisolene 2 days pre chemo and 2days post chemo he has ine day left tommorow. Reading the literature we was given it says steroids should not just be stopped due to severe withdrawal. I phoned the ward which is his 24 hour contact no. The nurse said no you just stop them. Do you think he will be ok? He has been so well since taking the steroids he is better than he has been for months. Its all a bit confusing. Thanks for reading
Hi again Hi2345 sorry for not responding earlier but I have been out of contact.
I have come off steroids both ways…… the cliff edge stop and drop……. or the slow taper over a few days.
My preferred method was the slow taper.
As much as the steroids work they can’t be taken continuously and have to be controlled and look for the progressive positive effects of the treatment to do the job.
Thanks Mike.
So how did you feel after the stop and drop if you dont mind me asking .
I appreciate everyone is different .
We will have a chat with his consultant about it but dont have an appointment until the end of july .
Thanks Sarah
Very lethargic….. just had to push through and keep some activity going.
Hi there,
Thought I would contact you. My husband had DLBC. He Was on steroids the same, we thought it was strange as they do ssy don't stop steroids suddenly. Well steroids were given before and after Chemo just for a few days. He tolerated it well. So don't worry. It seems to be the norm. Just to add he is now 3 years post treatment and doing well. Hope your results will be the same.
Hi, I also had the five days of steroids each cycle. At some point the day after they stopped each cycle it was like a switch being tripped and all energy disappeared. By day ten I was usually back to normal or at least what passed for normal while going through the treatment. I have said this in other threads but as you go through the cycles you learn what to expect. Personally I found it all become very tedious. Lots of time spent counting down the cycles and the next appointment.
Hi Hi2345, how did your dad get on? I hope he has managed ok. I've just found the post and I took my last steroids this morning after first chop on Tuesday- is it a big dip?! I’ve not really thought about it till now as have had best day so far , 4 days after chemo, felt bit brighter. Worried now it might be bed for the next week after reading some of the comments?! Many thanks K x
Hi. My experience was it was a fairly big dip. I was happy doing all sorts of jobs day two to five. I was laying slabs, Washing and polishing the car etc. At some point on day six a switch seemed to click and all energy was gone for two or three days. I used to just doze for a couple of days. Just tackle anything you have to do and ignore anything else.
