Just going for my third R CHOP Chemo

Hi It's Verity almost time for my third R Chop I have had so many people respond to my 2nd R Chop which was very kind.

I am now due to go in for my third at then end of this week, but just wondered if anyone can help. Although I lost 95% of my hair on week three, I haven't lost my eyebrows even though they are thinner, BUT I have soft hair growing back on my head which is now concerning me as I am worrying that the treatment isn't working.

Has anyone else had this situation as early as this? as I seem to read that it grows back at the end of treatment.

Thanks

  • Hi Verity25

    I had the same.

The hair was fine and not particularly visible but you could feel it. It didn't fall out again but didn't thicken much until after treatment had finished. I also had the odd patch that never fell out.

  • Good morning Verity , oh this journey can be very confusing at times and one of these things is how our hair reacts is not set in stone.

My hair, all my body hair disappeared very quickly after my first round of treatment  - like snow on a warm day and stayed gone until after my treatment finished.

But I shaved all my hair off before going into my Stem Cell Transplant as the team said I would definitely lose it all again......... but it was not the case as it was growing back after a week into my treatment.

One size does not fit all.

As always call your question into your team and get their reassurance ((hugs))

  • Hi Verity

I was the same, I managed to hold onto my eyebrows too albeit they were thin and my eye lashes also remained but again a bit sparse.  I had very thick hair, and lots of it before treatment so maybe that’s a factor.

I think everyone is a bit different but it doesn’t mean the treatment isn’t working.

  • Hi Sassy,

Thank you for your email it's nice to hear someone else has had similar situation, think you just worry if things don't happen exactly as you are told.  Hope all is good with you.

  • Hi Mike,

Thanks again for your message. I will of course speak to my consultant when I am due for round 3 on Thursday, I obviously agree we will respond to treatment differently you only have to read a few things on this site to know some people have things very hard and others seem to fly through without any major problems.

Just started to worry as people speak about lumps etc disappearing quickly which the one that I can actually see hasn't and then when my hair started to grow back when everyone seems to have lost it and it not returning until end of treatment I started to question if the treatment is working for me. Silly I know but was a little sad to see my long wavy hair fall out but even more concerned when it has started to grow back.

Thank again Mike you are always there for people with good advise and support, so very kind, no wonder you are a community champion.

  • Having cancer is the pits.

Worrying about it won't make things better which is easy to say but very difficult in practice.

Asking folk about the things you are experiencing helps and also helps others that read the forum but may not wish to post themselves.

I didn't start posting till after I had finished treatment but read through a lot of the site.

  • Hi Garfields,

I agree having cancer is just terrible.  I thought I coped well with round 1 & 2 had some better days and of course some no so good, but it's been one week since round 3 R Chop and I am finding it difficult, I feel terrible and have no energy just feel I am doing something wrong and I should try and walk and do things but it is as much as I can do to do a few minutes here and there, even my fingers don't won't to type this as if feel to much.  This sounds crazy even as I am typing this specially as they are tingly.

Maybe tomorrow will be a bit better.

  • The couple of days after I finished the steroids each cycle  a could not be bother to even watch tv

The tingly fingers (peripheral neuropathy) is also common (also toes) it did go away post treatment but it felt like I was trying to do things with gloves on at times. Let the  nurses know when you are in for treatment though.

It's fine to have days when you just rest there is not much that cant wait till a day when you feel more active.
