In the news last months there was a story highlighting that people with blood cancer do not fare as well as others after the covid jab. It said that after the first jab, the protection was just 13% and that dropped to 8% after 3 weeks. It also said that the best protection would be had if the second jab was just3 weeks after the first. Does anyone happen to know how well we are protected after 2 jabs if the second is 12 weeks later? I am concerned that I won’t be as protected as other people.
Hi Lellynelly, the Covid jab effectiveness is a broad subject. I have talked with many people over the past few months on this Community but other blood cancer platforms and obviously there are some concerns.
I have had my two jabs and personally see my protection not coming from the vaccine, but it will help. I see my main protection coming as more of the population gets vaccinated and this reduces the transmission rates protecting people like us.
As I have a permanently reduced immune system I was never expecting a good protection in the first instance but this will improve as new re-vaccinations come on line.
I have talked with some people who have had an antibody tests and the results were all over the place with good and not so good results.
I am now over 5 years out from my second Sten Cell Transplant and nothing much changed as to how my family lived our lives during the Covid times..... I am at more danger from developing Pneumonia, Shingles and Measles then Covid.
We just need to take care, controlling who we see and where we go. But this won’t stop us going to a local garden centre this afternoon and having lunch in their outside set up.
((hugs))
Hi, like Mike I have spoken to a number of people and am part of a group that is mainly Americans, they have access to antibody testing for free and a number have now posted their results and the vary a lot, some who have had treatment including those on maintenance treatment have had very good results showing they have protection.
So its looking like its very individual and the is no patten as to why some have a good antibody score and others don't.
we all know this is a roller coaster ride, where we ride blind, never knowing where the highs and lows are
I've had an antibody test as part of a study and made no antibodies at all after the first jab. Will get another antibody test next Monday 4 weeks after the second jab. I don't expect to have had a response as I've just finished chemo.
By the way you can buy a test online, just make sure it's the spike antibody test and not the other one.
