Hi everyone. Is anyone out there able to shed some light as to when you can return to eating things like runny eggs, soft cheese and even sushi after you have finished chemotherapy? I’ve had three cycles of R-Chop ( last cycle on the 23rd July) and will start Radiotherapy on the 2nd of September. There appears to be no clear guidance on this.
Hi Stef61, not sure if you are ok until your Radiotherapy is complete, I was told to hold off as my radiotherapy would effect my immune system.
Once my treatment was complete and my blood counts were back up my SCN actually called me to say I was ok to eat normal - give them a call to be safe.
Mike
Thanks Mike. There’s always conflicting views. When I went for my mask fitting for RT I was told it doesn’t affect the immune system! I’ve found this with other areas As well, since being diagnosed and Have felt confused a lot of the time. My view is if there are no definitive answers then I just avoid or leave it for longer.
Some of the Radiotherapy I had was Total Lymphoid Irradiation to kill off the effectiveness of my Lymph nodes as part of my SCT and the effects of this treatment lasted a rather long time so that may well be why I was told to watch what I was eating. Safe not sorry
I wasn't told to avoid anything at any time. I saw the dietician at the beginning and she said to eat whatever I fancied as I had little appetite.
I spoke with my dietician once at the very beginning and although he was happy with what I ate in general, he did say to avoid certain things. I think I’ll go back to him and have another conversation.

Hi,
I had three cycles of RCHOP and then three weeks of RT on my neck, I was told to avoid certain foods, sushi being one of them. I was also told to avoid my favourite foods during chemo as it may put me off them in the future, but I was fine, I also cut out alcohol and didn’t drink any post diagnosis or during my treatment.
I had a PET scan three months post my RT treatment, then upon receiving the results I went straight from the hospital to Buddha Bar and ate sushi to celebrate!
That’s sounds great. I’m six weeks post RT (three weeks like you) now and 4 months post R-chop ( 3 cycles ). I’m waiting until Xmas to have my sushi. Where was your lymphoma? I had DLBCL base of tongue and several nodes on left side of neck. Yours sounds very similar to mine.
